Hommage à Petrucciani
Since the very first listening, I have deeply appreciated the richness of sounds, the absolute sharpness and vital energy which characterize Michel Petrucciani’s musical production.
Over the years, I have developed a sort of veneration for the one who represents a myth, perfection embodied in a seemingly tiny being who is a true titan of music.
However, besides being a brilliant musician gifted with superhuman talent to emulate, Petrucciani is also a man to admire for his tenacity, determination and thirst for life and he is a real source of inspiration for me.
As to the selected musical pieces – In a Sentimental Mood, Brazilian Like, Summer and Round Midnight – I consciously decided to respect the original structure and performance of each of them given by the Maestro during specific live concerts (see credits), interpreting them faithfully, since I do think that when you are faced with perfection, you can do nothing but assume an attitude of pure admiration and respectful contemplation.
In the making of the album, I once again experimented his wonderful and touching uniqueness and mastery that make him a formidable jazz pianist, one of the greatest of all time.
I would dare to define him “the pianist of the impossible”, made “possible” thanks to his immeasurable talent and his unparalleled creativity.
